Gouache Painting for the Terrified

Gouache Painting for the Terrified

Thu 6pm - 8pm Starts 12 June

£115/£112(c) • Friends £113/£110(c)

If you’ve always wanted to try painting but felt too nervous to begin then this friendly four-week class is for you!  Designed especially for beginner adults—or anyone returning to art after a long break, in this  class you will have the chance to explore the joyful world of gouache painting in a relaxed and supportive setting.

Today’s class  is taught by local illustrator and resident artist Jemma Jamie Skidmore.  Jemma will guide you step by step through fun exercises and approachable projects designed to help you enjoy the process and connect with your creativity.

Gouache (pronounced GOO-ASH) is a richly pigmented paint that behaves like a beautiful blend of watercolour and acrylic. It’s forgiving, vibrant, and perfect for creative experimenting. If you’ve struggled with oils or watercolours in the past, gouache might just be the perfect medium for you.

Over the four weeks, you’ll gently build your confidence with a paintbrush while learning simple techniques for colour mixing, layering, and creating bold, playful artwork. You’ll leave with a mini collection of gouache paintings, some new skills, and perhaps even a newfound love for painting.

All materials are provided—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to play.
